Multi-role trip for Isabella Fortuna.

Wick Society`s roving ambassador  `Isabella Fortuna` sails from Wick on Friday 20 June 2008 on a 9-day trip.  The first port of call is the `Scottish Traditional Boat Festival  at Portsoy where the boat will be open to the public as part of this popular annual event. ( 21/22 June)

This year 18 volunteers will form the crews and shore-support teams for the trip.

On the 23rd June the boat will host school visits in Portsoy before moving to Whitehills Harbour to facilitate similar visits of school children from Whitehills, Banff and Macduff. These educational visits are sponsored by Aberdeenshire Council.

The Isabella Fortuna will move to Macduff Harbour on Friday 24 June in readiness to be the start vessel for the 25th Banff to Stavanger North Sea Yacht Race which begins on Saturday 28 June.

Weather-permitting, the boat will return to Wick when this duty is completed.

The fully-restored Isabella Fortuna is the oldest sea-going  fishing boat in Scotland. Built and launched in 1890 she is powered by sail and motor.   The Kelvin K3 - 66hp engine  is also of historic interest.  It was installed in 1932 when the boat fished from Arbroath and continues to be the main source of propulsion.
